Geometry

Suspended luminaire for Modular Lighting Instruments, Belgium

This project was a response to Modular Lighting Instruments' competition to design a distinct but versatile suspended luminaire.

My concept, submitted with and further developed by Holscher Design, was selected and combined with designer Florent Coirier's submission to create the final product, Geometry. My circular design that gives a sense of a celestial or planetary object was well complemented by the square frame of his variation to create further styling opportunities.

PROCESS

My original concept came from a rapid design process, in which I wanted to create an otherworldly object with visual references to a fantastical astronomical instrument. Simplicity and its modular capabilities were key so that it could suit many different contexts, namely for retail, restaurant and hospitality environments. It is striking as a stand-alone object, but when placed next to each other can create a wave, or various lighting effects.
