Spiral of Colour
Paper installation for G.F. Smith's showroom in London.
Comissioned by G.F. Smith, TNA Design studio designed and constructed the 'Spiral of Colour' and three window displays.
The 'Geometrist' is a paper sculpture making kit developed by TNA that explores all manners of geometric shapes using individual folded strips called 'elements'. To showcase the possibilities of this product as well as the quality and colour range of G.F. Smith paper, TNA designed and built large-scale installations displayed at G.F. Smith's London showroom from Nov 2019 - Feb 2020.
The spiral is a mono-structure that was pieced together onsite, and made using all 52 colours of their Colorplan 270gsm paper.
Applying the 'Geometrist' construction method, the spiral is a linkage of 269 units of pentagonal anti-prisms, made up of 4,842 elements joined together by over 20,000 hand glued and fixed connections. It took over a couple months of active construction to complete the full spiral.
WINDOW DISPLAY
Besides the 'Spiral of Colour' showcasing all of G.F. Smith's Colorplan, TNA was commissioned to create and build a window display to introduce the Colorplan's four new colours: chartreuse, hot pink, rust and slate. Designed to appear as large rolls of white paper transforming into the paper elements that form into colourful geometric shapes, with each window displaying one of the new colours in a gradient from white to slate. As opposed to the planned construction of the 'Spiral of Colour' the window displays were more of a freestyle build, allowing the forms to create their own flow and shape.
